OUR PROGRAM

The educational program is based on sound principles of child development. My goals are to give children a sense of self-worth by helping them develop at their own individual pace while learning basic skills. I want children to feel confident and secure enough to explore and grow in a stimulating educational and social environment.

I am committed to promoting and supporting all aspects of a child’s growth in an atmosphere of respect. Your child is an individual who is an important member of a group, and whose uniqueness is acknowledged and appreciated by that group.

Children participate in a variety of individual and group activities designed to develop language and reading readiness skills enhancing physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth, skills and attitudes which will increase their ability to succeed in school.

The program and curriculum are flexible to allow for the changing needs or wants of the children. Infants, toddlers and preschoolers will learn through daily play and activities. Academics will be taught with hands on, concrete experiences. Your child will learn colors, shapes, counting, reading and math readiness skills and other concepts. They will use all their senses and experiment with things that interest them.

Throughout the course of your child’s time at Tender Hearts, photographs and videos are often taken of the children during projects and experiences. The children really enjoy looking at pictures and videos as well as listening to voices of their friends and themselves. This is also a great way to share with parents what their children are doing when they are not here. An authorization form will need to be filled out giving permission or declining permission for your child to be photographed, videotaped, audiotaped or interviewed while enrolled at Tender Hearts.

Tender Hearts uses individual child portfolios to document individual children’s progress over time. A portfolio is records of the child’s process of learning and documents the following five practices:

* What the child has learned and how the child has gone about learning;

* How the child thinks, questions, analyzes, synthesizes, produces, and creates;

* How the child interacts – intellectually, emotionally and socially – with others;

* Goals for child outcomes are included in child portfolios; and

* Artifacts/samples of the child’s work.

Tender Hearts uses portfolios actively and in an ongoing manner. Meaning, at a minimum, the portfolios will be updated with a piece of evidence or observation at least once every three months (four times per year).

PLAY is the major component of our program.  Enough time, materials and space will be provided for children to actively explore the world around them.  Children will have an opportunity to use a variety of art materials, manipulatives and housekeeping equipment.
